May 01 - March 02 Smooth Jazz Vibes title logo News, infos and CD reviews by Peter Böhi - your host and fellow smooth jazz aficionado

February 24, 2002

Fellow smooth jazz fan Don approached me with this:

During the late 80's and early 90's, I recorded some excellent smooth jazz tunes from the radio, but like a fool, I didn't take note of the titles, much less the artists. I would really like to find someone knowledgable about smooth jazz of that time period to have a listen and identify those songs so I can perhaps buy the CD so I have a better copy.

I certainly volunteered to identify these songs but soon found out that unfortunately the size of my memory doesn't match the size of my CD collection. So we decided to post these tracks on my site and hope that my visitors can help out. Please check out these tunes below which consist of short mp3 sound samples and give it a shot. If you think you know who the featured artist is please drop me a line or go over to the discussion board to help completing the task of identifiying these songs.

Sad to report the death of guitarist Steve Veale who passed away in January after fighting melanoma for two years. Read the heartfelt tribute to Steve written by our own Jonathan Widran.

I just thought that a little sign of life from me would be in order. As you can see my own Peter's Smooth Jazz Page has been "out of order" for a while. The site itself apart from my page is thriving with regular contributions from Jonathan Widran (see his Contempo column), Brian Soergel (see his Smooth Sailing column, in the meantime exclusively written for my site) and Denis Poole (see his Secret Garden column, a view of the smooth jazz scene from the British perspective). Thanks to these gentlemen I am able to offer each month a slew of reviews and opinions on new smooth jazz releases so check back regularly.

The new discussion forum has caught on slowly but due to its great features I expect it to grow. If you want to post a comment open for discussion or give us your thoughts about anything smooth jazz please feel free to go to the discussion forum and use it.

The new Smooth Jazz News page has caught on slowly as well. A few people from the industry have received their access infos but I expect many more to join in the future. If you are a radio personality, a music promotor, a label executive, a journalist, a fan club manager or just a knowledgeable smooth jazz aficionado please ask for your username and password information and post anything of interest for the readers of this site on the Smooth Jazz News page. It is easy to do and if you want to you can include links, pictures and so on.

My guestbook is thriving so please feel free to leave your comments there (or in the discussion forum). You may contact me as well by e-mail.

Thanks for visiting my site!

Drummer Omar Hakim is featured in the newest issue of Macworld magazine. He not only talks about using his Macs and digital recording but also about the current music business and the use of drum machines. Check it out!

Hello everybody!

Sorry for the hiatus in updating this page but I have been very busy and had to let the site suffer a bit. Things should be back to normal soon.

I have moved over this page to a new provider which allows me to employ cgi-scripts. Thanks to this new functionality I can now offer a new enhanced guestbook and a great new much extended discussion forum.

Since I moved the whole site there is a possibility of broken links, missing pictures and the like so please let me know about any problems you may encounter. Thanks!

So please use the new services and post in the forum. If you have any suggestions and ideas how to improve this site please let me know.
