Earl Klugh Among Those To Raise AIDS Awareness

Earl Klugh, Al Jarreau and George Duke will perform in India next year to promote AIDS awareness.

Secretary of State Colin Powell and the U.S. State Department is launching a jazz tour of India to promote AIDS awareness. Guitarist Earl Klugh, vocalist Al Jarreau, pianist George Duke and saxophonist Ravi Coltrane will join graduate students from the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz for the tour, which is called Indians and Americans Together Against HIV/AIDS.

The 2005 tour is co-sponsored by the State Department, BET (Black Entertainment Television) Jazz and MTV. The tour, with shows, master classes and HIV/AIDS outreach programs, will be Jan. 13 to Jan. 19 in New Delhi and Mubai, India. India, which has more than 1 billion people, has the second-largest population of HIV-positive people in the world, with about 5.1 million people living with the disease.
