Taijiquan - Taijiquan (2011)
Taijiquan is a four piece band located in Houston, Texas. They fuse hip jazz of the 60/70ies with modern grooves, striving to create a rebirth of acid jazz. When I discovered this band on my iPod, I was simply blown away, this band provides a perfect mix of funky grooves and jazz improvisation, delivered by a bunch of great players yielding an album that is pure bliss. Outstanding!

Saltaire - Just Press Play (2010)
Saltaire is a band led by guitarist Ron Saltmarsh and keyboardist Dan Truman, they deliver a perfect blend of smooth, groovy instrumentals with lots of nice solos and catchy melodies, plus sax and trumpet, the production is top-notch, quality stuff from beginning to end. Don't miss it!

Chieli Minucci & Special EFX - Genesis (2013)
Still going strong, Chieli Minucci releases another outstanding album with Genesis. Groovy instrumentals featuring the guitar of the leader, most notable is "Your Smile, My Heaven" which takes you to another level. Thumbs up!

Maysa - Blue Velvet Soul (2013)
Maysa's latest release on Shanachie is simply stunning, this singer has matured to a degree that has become almost untouchable. With some input from Bluey from Incognito, this is a gorgeous slice of smooth soul. Maysa, we love you!

Bob James & Earl Klugh - One On One (1979)
My nod to the past goes to this seminal album by keyboardist Bob James and acoustic guitarist Earl Klugh. The chemistry between those two players is special, the compositions and sound reflect the best of the Tappan Zee label back in the day. A musical milestone!

'You're Beautiful' by versatile singer songwriter Walter Christopher. In mid 2012 this Harlem native released Walt Chris (The Remix) that featured some of his hottest singles from recent years and among them was this fabulous track. Check it out and look forward to a smooth jazz version of it that will be included on Walter's forthcoming CD Mellisonant.

'Sunlight' by The Brand New Heavies. Taken from the band's new CD Forward, this is a song that is destined to be one of the standout tracks of 2013 and includes vocals from the always excellent N'Dea Davenport.

'Falling' by Snake Davis his from his latest release Missing You. This moody yet soulful cut is extremely hard to beat and finds Davis and keyboard player Paul Birchall in the fine company of bass man Winston Blisset and drummer Andy Bleakely. Peter Whitfield and Keith Andrew also contribute on strings and guitar respectively. Suffice to say, the entire combination, much like the album itself, works to perfection.

'I Wanna Groove', the title cut from the latest CD by guitarist Joe Lindsay. Featuring vocals from Calvin Richardson (aka The Prince Of Soul) this easy grooving tune seems virtually certain to make it into my top twenty smooth jazz tracks of the year.

'Keep Myself Together' by Bluey from his solo CD Leap Of Faith. This, the latest project from Incognito's Bluey Maunick includes some fine tracks and among them is this wonderful mid tempo stunner which he uses as an obvious nod to the legendary Ronald Isley.
